Eyes Wide: Supper Club’s Hudson Sky Terrace Garden Party

Charmed. That was the overall feeling that lingered after exiting Tamsin Lonsdale’s Supper Club opening party for the Hudson Sky Terrace last night. To be frank, I was not expecting it to pan out this way. Upon arriving (on time, which apparently is not the thing to do at Supper Club events), I was greeted by ethereal servers dressed in cultish white with freakish Eyes Wide Shut smiles -- unnerving for a girl who had never been to a Supper Club event, who was brazenly going solo, and who had arrived to a near-empty terrace on the 15th floor of the Hudson Hotel.

Alas, I had not stumbled into a secret swingers club. Why so jaded New Yorker? The smiles were an endearing reflection of the quality of entertaining we were about to witness. As Lonsdale floated around her guests, the place slowly filled with a mix of socialites, social climbers, and more importantly, foodies. The view is intoxicating, and the finger food is, as to be expected, addictive. And after several Hudson Smashes ((ri)1, Otto’s Constant Dream, and Moet & Chandon were sponsors), I’ve gotten the hang of the atmosphere, happily running into familiar faces including foodies/socialites Jamie and Bettina Prentice, who exchanged wedding stories with newly engaged PMC photog David X. Prutting and Chau Ngo, as well as Page Six-er Neel Shah, who had heard about a party with free food and had to see what it was all about. “Do you know anything about the Supper Club?” I asked Shah, “All I know is that it has something to do with food” he replied.

Indeed it does, dear Neel. Usually exclusive, and strictly members-only, The Supper Club had relaxed its tight guest list last night to allow journos like Shah and myself get a sense of what the club is all about. Unlike most high brow city events, the Supper Club keeps away from the FameGame limelight (last night excluded), allowing members to try new food and different venues among peers that have undergone a membership review in order to keep out those merely interested in social advancement. The result is a lovely, charming—as I said before—club in which entertaining is taken seriously, and dinner guests are some of the most affable I’ve come across. The event marked the official opening of the Hudson Sky Terrace, which for the first time will be open for public use this summer. Alexa Wilding added to the easy garden party with a live acoustic performance, prompting me to contemplate transferring my gym membership fund over to a potentially new Supper Club membership fund- recession be damned!

Neel Shah and friends
