Tom Cruise Too Scary with Eyepatch, Say Film Execs

Notorious for playing heroes in just about every film he's been in, Tom Cruise is facing quite the kampf in his new role as a failed hitman hired to off Hitler in the Bryan Singer-helmed Valkyrie. So what's the problem with Tom Cruise -- who's saved the world again and again -- donning full military regalia and kicking some Nazi ass? That would be his eyepatch.
Stacked on top of his outlandish antics on Oprah and his affiliations to Scientology, the film’s already gotten tagged as “the Tom Cruise eyepatch movie” within Hollywood, leading the film’s distributors to scratch their heads over the best way to market the man. The solution? Since it’s too late for re-shoots or a Valkyrie starring someone other than the diminutive champion of Xenu, new press materials play down the significance of Cruise and play up Singer’s involvement in the feature. And both of his eyes are just fine, thanks.

Who cares about the cult he’s in—I still haven’t been able to take him seriously since I found out he was 5’6” (but hats off to the guys who directed the camera angles and bulit the platforms). He’s absolutely tiny. That may seem shallow, but he put that on himself by trying to be the ohh so tough guy. Forgot to mention...the acting ain’t too good either. He’s a walking SNL skit.

I’ve seen the trailer and I want to see this movie. It looks good, very good I must say. And a good movie is a good movie. By the way, I am short too but I never thought that was a crime… Other people are fat and that is not a crime either… It is more important the good in their hearts than the sizes of their bodies. There is obviously a tremendous lack of education and respect in some people who comment anything on the internet, without showing their faces, of course.

Joxe: I myself am just a bit taller than Cruise, but I’m also not so grandiose as to think I could be an action hero. And like I said, I admit to being shallow...don’t think we should have obese fashion models, midget NFL lineman or white actors portraying Malcolm X either.

I don’t know if your description of the role Cruise plays—“a failed hitman hired to off Hitler”—is your own misunderstanding of the movie, or the movie’s distortion of history. Whichever it is, though, it does a disservice to the real Claus von Stauffenberg. Stauffenberg was no “hitman”, “hired” to kill Hitler. He was a man who felt it so important to remove Hitler from power, permanently, that he was prepared to give his own life to make it happen. A hitman would never propose to make a suicide attack on his target, for the simple reason that his motivation is money and he must be alive to spend that money. Whether you agree with Stauffenberg’s ideals or not, it is clear that it was for ideals that Stauffenberg attempted the assassination of the Fuhrer.

i am watching this movie because of the story and because tom cruise movies are always special, just like tom hanks.
i am a huge fan fan of both actors.
as i am reading comments in this page some are saying they don’t want to watch this movie because of his religion.
i don’t get it.some are saying that tom cruise using this movie to brainwash people to join his religion? does that make sense at all.

Creepy foreshadow. The CoS leader, David Miscavige, described as an abusive psychopath, is said to ride around in an armored car. It’s been suggested that someone within the ranks, might try to off him. Of course anyone who wouldn’t QUESTION, much less step one foot inside something called a CHURCH “Celebrity Center,” probably doesn’t question details too much.
When you spoke of ruthlessly calling ethics out on yourself Tom, did that involve locking yourself in a tiny contained area infested with roaches for weeks (RPF)? Thought not.
Ever wonder how a system could be so fragile, that even allowing yourself to consider that stories from the outside might be true, and investigating them independently could be corruptive? A crime in fact?
Driving curiosity, these celebs eh?

Who would be afraid of Tom Cruise? Sure a midget coming at me with an eye-patch might freak me out, but we all know that a swift kick ends the terror. Seriously, Film Executives are really going to blame the failure of this movie on the stupid eye-patch he wears? Come on; at least go with the whole “Oops, we didn’t know it was Hanukkah” plan, or the “People just don’t want a Nazi movie after Christmas” idea they originally had.

I’m definitely going to see this movie. Not because I would be a fan of Tom Cruise, no, but because the whole history of the July 20 plot has always intrigued me. So to actually see it on screen, in the grandiose eye-patching… err, eye-catching Hollywood style is a dream come true.
Too bad that the premiere in my corner of the world is delayed to mid-February. Oh well…

Not me. I think the parallels between Scientology and Fascism are eerie and sickening, never mind the eye patch. If you think CoS has gets bad publicity NOW, wait until this is released, with the church’s numero uno soldier playing an anti-Nazi hero, while looking sinister.
Yeah I know Tom, all the BAD stories we read are just lies… except… what if they’re not?

Yeah, I won’t be paying to see this. Might as well just hand the money directly to his ironically nazi-like $cientology cult!
Those of you who don’t understand what the big deal about this cult is, seriously, look it up before hopping up on your “persecution” soap box.
