Ok, so Ditz/Bitch is good and accurate, but it draws directly from the ages-old Sweetie/Dangerous Fuckbuddy dichotomy.  Current examples are Blond, Bland Rita vs. Venomous Vixen Lila on Dexter, and Classically Beautiful Motherly Karen vs. Hank Moody’s Ever Rotating Suite of Ill-Chosen Sex Partners on Californication.  And it’s a really old phenomenon—like, book-old—that dates back to at least the medieval times (see Virtuous Una vs. Rotten Hag By Night Duessa in Edmund Spenser’s Faerie Queene).  All in all, it proves we as a society <3 a good scandal, especially if it involves taking down powerful women.  All said, this is pretty sexist, and I’d love to say let’s get over it, but we all know I watch these shows too.

Actually, per Gossip Girl, the bitch/ditz dichotomy is exemplified more by Blair vs. Serena. But it’s also a blond vs. brunette issue, which pops up all over the place (such as in the movie Starter For 10) so it’s interesting to note that in real life, it’s the blond--Clinton--who takes the smart, or “bitch,” persona and the brunette--Palin--is the ditz. That said, in reality, Palin is far more cunning than smart, a la W. Clinton is a bonafide intellectual while Palin has an inferiority complex when it comes to the intellectual elite. Essentially, the ditz is more willfully ignorant than anything else.
