French lessons aren’t needed to appreciate Yelle’s debut album. Though Pop-Up isn’t exactly a bellwether of electro-pop, it is set apart by its willingness to be whimsical. Expectedly punchy on “A cause de garçons” and “Je veux te voir,” Yelle shines especially on bubbly jingles like “Ce jeu,” which keeps Pop-Up from falling flat.
