Between a weekend of football kickoffs, tennis upsets, and Michelle Obama's tricep pushdowns, it seems we're being inspired to strap on our sneakers. And Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki inspired women to strap on a little more than gym shoes during her winning match at the US Open yesterday, defeating top-ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova in a very bouncy way. Chatter ensued about the well-endowed teen's bust size, causing tongues to wag about the player's future in sports and the merits of a good sports bra. While she may be advancing to the grand slam quarterfinals, her top-heavy performance may also mean she'll be advancing to the pages of Maxim.

Though studies have shown an absent or ill-fitting sports bra causes permanent damage to the breasts, including the dreaded sag, 41% of women do not such bras (or wear bras that are totally unsupportive) during exercise. While the teen tennis star has been showing off court-friendly fashions from adidas by Stella McCartney, there's an array of supportive ways to maintain a perky physique and stave off the negative effects of a droopy bra.

Wozniacki looked stylish in her luxe athletic gear, but the pep in her step could be breaking down the breast’s fragile support structure -- specifically named Cooper’s ligaments, which are the delicate connective tissues. This results in a total downer for a girl's chest. Ladies with ample cleavage often look to gimmicky preventative creams promising to lift and firm, when all they really need do is a full strap and trusty material in a style made for her.

Small to Medium Chest: For your A- and B-cup needs, Compression sports bras, which look like your basic stretchy one-size-fits-all classic, are your best bets. They fit over your head without any fasteners, and don't usually come in cup sizes. A great model for high-impact sports -- like running -- is the Bestform High Impact Double Santoni crop bra. It has wide straps and a great ribbed band to keep it from riding up.

Medium Chest: A hybrid of compression/encapsulation sports bras combine shaping -- which uses a cup that encapsulates each breast, as a tight fabric compresses the breast against the chest. A nice combo of shape and support is the Shock Absorber Support Level 3 sports bra. This style is used for someone with a B-C range, and it also provides a lot of fabric coverage for days when you're exercising in public (playing at the US Open, perhaps).

Large Chest: Natural-shaping sports bras are made for women with a bit more on top, say a C or more. It has shaping cups made for your particular size, plus a large fastener, either in the front or the back. One of the most popular encapsulated sports bras is made by Enell and is endorsed by Oprah as a miracle bra.
