Disney, the cultural bastion of children’s entertainment and commercialism, has finally, tentatively crawled towards modernity with The Princess and the Frog, an animated feature starring Princess Tiana, an actual African-American princess. Better late than never. They even got Oprah to sign on as the voice of the character Eudora. And of course, there's a product to go with it.

In support and celebration of Disney’s ethnically inclusive effort, Carol’s Daughter is launching a new bath collection in October with the lovely Princess Tiana on the label. Like the other products from Carol’s Daughter, this collection is formulated with ingredients that are especially good for African-American hair, but they’ll work for all hair types -- so we don’t have to worry about Rush Limbaugh crying reverse racism.

Tiana isn’t the only princess who stands out lately. Check out the uproar over the recently released video game Fat Princess. Might not score so high if you were to poll 100 people in the Women’s Studies Department of your local university, but I’m for any representation of a princess that doesn’t include the waist of a 12-year-old and the boobs of a porn star.
