I picked up Lina Hanson's Eco-Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Natural Beauty and Wellness a while ago, and have not been able to put it down. The book is a gentle reminder that it is possible to green every aspect of your life, and Hanson introduces concepts in a way that makes transitioning into a conscious lifestyle less exasperating and more empowering. I've been trying to take measures of my own in this department, making little changes in my beauty routine that have really started to make a difference -- and one of the things I am trying to incorporate is what she calls "Juice Couture."

Hanson herself tries to eat 65-75 percent of her diet as raw fruits and vegetables. I doubt many of us can say the same, but juicing is a great way to help rid yourself of toxins, increase your energy levels, support your immune system, and feed you immune system from the inside out. Hanson eats a combo of juiced and whole fruits and veggies to get the benefits of their fiber content. There are a few places to get your juice fix in the city, but you can also grab a processor and follow Hanson's favorite recipes.

All Green - Hanson admits, "the All Green isn't the tastiest or the most attractive you'll ever find. But while it might not be pretty, you will be if you drink this concoction several times a week!" ● A handful of organic parsley ● A handful of organic spinach ● 1 organic kale leaf ● 1/2 a medium organic cucumber ● 4 or 5 stalks of organic celery If the concoction tastes too strong after going through the juicer, half of a lemon will neutralize the potency.

Berry Blast - Berries are low in sugar, high in antioxidants, and pretty delish. When Hanson is feeling sluggish, she opts for this energizing treat. ● 1/4 cup each of organic raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries ● 1 heaping tablespoon on organic goji berries ● 2 cups of almond milk (substitute soy or rice milk)

Immune Zoom - H1N1 on the brain? Ease up a little knowing you're boosting your immune system with this vitamin C and ginger-heavy drink. Hanson also reminds juicers that there is actually more vitamin C in strawberries than an orange. Who knew? ● 5 medium organic oranges, peeled ● 1/2 oz. fresh gingerroot, peeled and roughly chopped ● 1/2 organic lemon ● 5 organic frozen strawberries After juicing the oranges and ginger root, pour contents into a blender and squeeze lemon juice into the mix, along with the strawberries. Blend until smooth.
