The older I get, the less I like The Bell Jar. Hell, even Sylvia Plath herself had reservations about having her name on the cover! Of course, it became a big hit once it was published under her own name. Writing a book and then killing yourself is a guarantee for good press! (Just ask that dude who wrote Confederacy of Dunces. Or, you know, don't.) It's been fifty years since the novel's publication, and to celebrate, U.K. publisher Faber and Faber has released a new cover for the golden anniversary. And it really captures the glamour of the book, right? Remember when Esther Greenwood lives in the cellar for a few weeks after trying to kill herself? Très chic!
