What do Beyonce, Beth Ditto and Rihanna have in common other than bad ass vocal pipes? And no their connection is not Lindsey Lohan twittering about them in the early morning hours-poor Samantha Ronson. These rocking musicians are all fans of LA’s Grey Ant Status shades. The look is: classic Wayfarers, with an unmistakable twist. They are large. And very in charge.
The twist is the result of Grey Ant designer, Grant Krajecki’s infatuation with ‘extremes.’ Krajecki takes inspiration from both ends of the spectrum. Status shades are the result of the understated cool of James Dean and the over the top grandstand high performer Elton John circa de ‘73.
While the Status shades are popular with rock and roll fashionistas, the Grey Ant Tuff shades have found their nook with the ladies of the silver screen. Most recently Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted wearing a red pair. These shades are too based on a classic style and transformed with that Grey Ant sparkle. Krajecki took ‘Smokey and the Bandit aviators’ and remade them for current scene setters. While it seems that the divide between rockers and actors can be displayed using Grey Ant style, Krajecki always one to challenge the status quo would like to see singer Faith Hill in a Tuff pair. Both styles can be purchased at the New High (M)Art.
