Or so one would think, based on his multifaceted performance in artist Carter's newest theatrical opus Erased James Franco, which debuted last Monday at the Museum of Modern Art, as part of their Modern Mondays series. Not only was his name an integral part of the title, but Franco also acted out every role.

Shot in the Yvon Lambert Gallery in Paris, the film features Franco reenacting some of his most memorable film and television appearances, as well as reinterpreting roles played by other award-winning actors, namely Julianne Moore's role in the 1995 horror flick Safe, directed by Todd Haynes, and Rock Hudson in John Frankenheimer's 1996 mystery thriller Seconds. It was like the pictorial flashback of a near-death experience, seeing a sequence of your life rapidly speeding by, but given the chance to re-act them. Oddly enough, Franco finds himself playing himself in many of the roles, but such a feat results in a hauntingly memorable performance. Gucci hosted a cocktail event after the screening honoring Franco and his many performances, while celebrating the iconic face he lends to Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme, creative director Frida Giannini's first men's fragrance for the house.
