Reading Kristin Reiter and Valerie Killeen’s blog, BleachBlack, is like spying on two stylish best friends discussing their latest fashion experiments and musings. Lucky for us, the duo welcome visitors to join the conversation. From obscure findings on the web and high-fashion highlights, to dirt-cheap trend alternatives and D.I.Y. tutorials, BleachBlack has something for every fashion enthusiast. When asked what their dream collaboration would be, Kristin (Bleach) replies, “The Devil x Chrome Hearts. How sick would that be?!” Valerie (Black), the old soul of the two, says, “Any project with the Missoni family, or Jane Birkin circa 1969.” It is this variety of inspiration that really makes their collaborative efforts worth watching. Besides the blog, they’ve also collaborated with Urban Outfitters on a jewelry collection (think reclaimed crystal brooches, suede piecing, studs, and distressed chains) appropriately timed for the holidays. They’re also working to launch a nail polish line in December, but there’s no rush: “It's so difficult to find that perfect color nowadays because companies are focused on sales,” Kristin explains. “Were honestly just fucking around and having fun with it!” Oh, and this isn’t even their day job; Valerie is Sr. Apparel Designer at Element Skateboards and Kristin is Design Director at RVCA. Productive girls with a chill vibe—what’s not to like?
1. Vignelli – 2010 Calendar – “This Stendig calendar is a classic, iconic design under $50.”
2. Hermes – Medor Watch – “This is also classic piece, with enough hardware to keep it young.”
3. Stupid.com – Gold Zipper Necklace – “We love this cheap-ass piece-of-shit zipper necklace from the 80s. It's perfectly tacky."
