President Obama may have just invited Vogue's infamous editor-in-chief to join his national Committee on the Arts and Humanities, but it seems Wintour is looking to Obama's own campaign for a few tips as well. Specifically, Wintour is planning on copying Obama's digital marketing techniques. She and Vogue publisher Tom Florio have apparently hired Blue State Digital, "the progressive-oriented online consultancy that famously created my.barackobama.com," says Jezebel. They'll be "focusing on outreach to readers and subscribers.
The move is noteworthy given Wintour's hesitance to expand her magazine's online identity in the past; and, namely, her reluctance to use the word "blog". Not to mention the decision only adds fuel to the rumor fire that Vogue is in fact looking to break away entirely from Style.com in the not-so-distant future and become its own independent porthole in much the same manner as Men.Style.com was recently closed down and filtered into GQ.com.
