The teaser for Karl Lagerfeld’s 10 minute-long, 1920s-themed silent film paying homage to the namesake of the French fashion house he helms is out. The film itself won’t debut until tomorrow (on Chanel’s website) and will likewise be screened in conjunction with the Kaiser’s upcoming Paris-Moscow collection presentation. While the fashions and overall aesthetics of the picture are especially appealing, altogether it proves a bit of a bore.

Considering this year welcomed the anniversary of Coco Chanel’s immensely influential brand, not to mention there are plenty of parallels between the 1920s and today (economic crises and bowler hats to name a few), it’s as good a time as any for a project such as this. Instead, it feels uninspired and unexciting. Perhaps the Kaiser should have taken a cue from Posh, or at the very least, cast his bird of paradise in the film instead.
