After weeks of rumors flying that Lindsay Lohan may inspire fashion designer Esteban Cortazar's departure from house of Emanuel Ungaro, it's happened. Back in early June, word surfaced that the tabloid fixture was in talks with Ungaro to come on board as a "creative consultant," a move Cortazar supposedly was strongly against (to the point that he threatened to leave his seat at Ungaro's helm if it actually took place).
According to Women's Wear Daily, "the designer, who received mixed reviews for the three collections he showed on the runway, had recently reached an impasse with management over its marketing and advertising strategy." As for who's being considered to fill Cortazar's shoes: "the identity of potential successors could not be learned"; however, "Mounir Moufarrige, Ungaro’s chief executive officer, is known for making unexpected choices." Considering Cortazar is a mere 25 years old, he surely has a chance at a long career ahead. Although, given Olivier Theyskens' recent split from Nina Ricci, it's a bit disconcerting to see such talented young designers looking for work in the midst of a dire downturn. Here's to hoping that by this coming fashion week both designers will have newly minted titles somewhere.
