First Stella McCartney payed homage to Walt Disney with a Bambi-inspired FW09 ad campaign shot by fashion industry favorite (he also shot Missoni's FW09 ads, and has snapped Levi's and Wrangler campaigns) Ryan McGinley. Now it's Harper's Bazaar's turn. Newly minted fashion blogger Perez Hilton has posted images from a not-yet-released Harper's Bazaar fashion shoot from its September issue, which pairs designer heavyweights (Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar de la Renta included), a model in each respective designer's most iconic FW09 look and an according Sesame Street character.
Think: Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy camping it up with the cookie monster and Carolina Herrera hanging with Elmo. What this new found fascination with iconic children's imagery has to say about where fashion is today, I'm not quite sure. Rather than find it amusing or cute (Perez for one calls it "possibly the best spread ever"), I think the obsession with reassuring fuzzy, fictional figures from films and TV shows past feels uninspired. And don't even get me started on Miss Piggy and Marc Jacobs: "Miss Piggy stopped by the designer’s offices, where she was fitted with a little black number from Jacobs’ fall collection... which Miss Piggy will reveal on the red carpet at Macy’s Glamorama bash in Chicago Friday," Women's Wear Daily reported yesterday. Who knew Lady Gaga's Kermit coat was so on trend?
