The fashion set got a preview of Rachel Roy’s new line for Macy’s last night, although the diffusion collection, dubbed Something Undiscovered, doesn’t officially drop until August. While the designer collaboration market is no doubt over-saturated with mega-retailer-meets-seasoned and newbie designer partnerships, Roy’s sportswear and accessories line for Macy’s definitely warrants a trip to 34th Street come autumn. Not only does the clothing in question appear “to be in good quality,” according to Racked (definitely a noteworthy accolade given the fact that diffusion can often connote forgoing decent fabrics or manufacturing), it’s super trendy too.
Think “swank crepe jumpsuits, studded skinny jeans, velvet mini-dresses, faux fur gilets, painterly print tunics, zippered sheaths, cozy snap front cardis, bejeweled tees, quilted shoulder bags, graffiti print pumps, sequin clutches, floral booties, chain-strewn boyfriend blazers, elegant puffers and purple patent wingtips,” adds Vogue UK. With clothing priced at $59 to $299 and shoes from $79 to $199, Roy’s Macy’s line will be contending with retailers like H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Topshop when it comes to price points. But Roy’s clothing boasts high marks for quality, and it's off the beaten path enough that not every 20- and 30-something Manhattanite will be wearing it come fall -- making it a very tempting alternative.
