[UPDATE: Apparently the images were leaked early, so the Topshoppers asked us and everyone else to take 'em down till September. Stay tuned.] The roster of designers signing up for collaborations with major retailers has grown exponentially, with a number of industry heavyweights stepping up to the partnership plate. Latest on the list: Christopher Kane, who has linked up again with Brit high street megastore Topshop. An Irish designer, schooled at Central Saint Martins, Kane has been front and center in the fashion industry in recent years thanks to a slew of successful collections (his SS09, for instance, sold out on Net-a-Porter within hours of hitting the site's virtual racks). Not to mention he recently partnered with Versace for the Versus collaboration. But, back to Topshop.
New York mag had [and presumably will eventually repost] a slideshow of all of Kane's party-ready frocks for the retailer, and they're good ... really good. According to The Cut, "The line hits stores next month with prices ranging from $60 for a scarf to $310 for a dress. The collection includes 39 pieces, with shoes and bags." While the prices are somewhat higher than what most shoppers are used to paying for a typical H&M or Target collaboration, Kane's garments tend to retail for three times the price they'll sell for at Topshop; and the designs themselves are worth the slightly higher price tag. The line's strong suit is definitely it's dresses -- the bust cup and mirror mesh body con dress definitely being the most covetable. And fans of Kane's iconic gorilla t-shirt dress will be happy to know there's a strikingly similar crocodile version included in this collection; one with a drastically more digestible price point. There are also a paired of mirrored knickers that are sure to keep the (Claire Danes-approved) no-pants trend going just a little bit longer.
