What does a video chat hub that connects users at random have to do with clothing? Not a whole lot. (Except that most users on the former are wearing very little of the latter). French Connection, the UK clothing company (no stranger to provocation as its chosen acronym is FCUK), is looking to cash in on all the hype Chatroulette has engendered with its latest campaign. Essentially, the clothing brand has challenged users to score a date off of Chatroulette. Should they accomplish the (nearly impossible) mission at hand? They'll be rewarded $375 worth of vouchers to redeem at any French Connection store for a "real life date-worthy outfit." The catch: the challenge is geared towards guys only.

Anyone who has taken a spin on the old Chatroulette wheel can attest to the fact that male users vastly outnumber female users (mostly as a result of the fact that one in five "chats" involve a close-up of male genitalia mid-masturbation). "We've hijacked the site; we're a fashion brand and we wanted to get involved in an irreverent way. It's a fun medium, although it's also weird, sad and strange. We only put up a small prize, because we don't want to look like we're trying too hard," FCUK's marketing director William Woodhams told AdAge.

The contest launched February 26 and closes tomorrow. Whether or not any guys have successfully "ventur[ed] into the most terrifying terrain on the internet to seduce a woman," remains to be seen; although the company claims to have received "thousands" of entries. Whoever the chosen winner is, they deserve veritable bragging rights as a bona fide Don Juan. That said, the real money shots surely lay in dudes getting shot down. As FCUK's manifesto for the challenge reads: "we also wanted to see failed flirts with ladies." If FCUK HQ has any marketing savvy, they'll compile these failures into a viral video or its very own blog. Hopefully most attempts will be a bit more inventive than the example provided by FCUK, which starts out, "do you like my cock?"
