imageAt New York Fashion Week, a number of heel mishaps transpired on catwalks across Manhattan. While in most cases slick runways were likely to blame, the six-inch-and-up pumps and platforms clomping down catwalks this season were definitely the primary cause of a number of runway disruptions. At Hérvé Leger, three separate models fell flat in not-so-stylish spills. At Phillip Lim 3.1 a model who lost an uber-high heel managed not to fall, and instead carried her heels in her hands.

It wasn’t until Bryan Reyes that the shoe storm truly hit the fan. At the designer’s Fall presentation, models walked barefoot for their final promenade down the runway in protest of the towering, torturous heels in which they were outfitted. And London isn’t immune to New York’s footwear foibles, either. At Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show this week, model and rock scion Daisy Lowe tripped. At Basso & Brooke, one model was forced to walk at a snail’s pace in order to avoid falling, while at Eley Kishimoto, a model kicked off her heels instead of taking a spill (pictured). If there was any doubt that Mario Cornejo was on to something when she sent her Fall 09 looks down the catwalk on models in flats, there's none now.
