Yoox is gearing up to make every feverish fan of Maison Martin Margiela's dream come true, if they have money to spend. This coming Monday, November 30, Yoox will be hawking around 100 items from Maison Martin Margiela's Artisanal collection. The assemblage of one-off wares date from 2009 back to 2005, so the disco ball top, a wig jacket, a jacket fashioned from sandals and a wedding dress that is in fact three vintage wedding dresses sewn together, will all be on hand. To make the sale even sweeter, Yoox has announced that proceeds will benefit the Rosa Spier House, a non-profit that shelters retired artists and academics. Considering that Margiela has officially exited his namesake fashion house, as of this month, the clothes being sold are truly collectors' items.
Meanwhile, another retailer will begin moonlighting as a rental house for supermodels and celebrities' clothing. Topshop is launching Dress Me Up -- a brand new endeavor that allows customers to rent dresses from Kate Moss, Freida Pinto, Scarlett Johansson, Olivia Palermo, Jourdan Dunn, Erin O'Connor, Naomi Campbell, Sophie Dahl, Nicola Roberts and Dita Von Teese and from designers including Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane and Emma Cook. The rental fee is a nominal £40, but the catch is that dress rentals are one-day only. If you're looking to land the look permanently, Vogue UK says, "the dresses will then be auctioned, giving you the chance to own your favourite dress forever with all proceeds from hire fee and the auction going to Topshop's chosen charities Age Concern and Help the Aged."
