imageAccording to WWD, one particular fashion trend dominating SS09 accessories is not for the faint of heart -- "guns, bullets and grenades are the focal point for a handful of jewelry designers." In the case of both LA's Bullets 4 Peace, a line spearheaded by Rafi Anteby (a former Israeli Army officer), and Dax Savage's Apocolucky Charms, arms and ammo are all the rage. On the east coast, socialite Zani Gugelmann is incorporating bullets into her not-yet-released line, Santo, which will donate 10% of sales to varying charities; meanwhile, Fetty of Brooklyn's Justin Tranter (who is also the frontman of Semi Precious Weapons) has been selling high- and low-end versions (Barney's and Urban Outfitters, respectively) of his "necklaces featuring a damaged heart with a gun, axe or saw."

Why the fascination with weaponry? For one, we're living in arduous times, both economically and politically speaking. Thus, fashion in all its forms is moving towards a more protective place. From Madonna's pistol-adorned stiletto heels to Christian Louboutin's scary spiked heels for Rodarte, accessories are appearing increasingly warfare-ready. On a less precarious style note, this week, the New York Times Pulse points to a resurgence of military jackets from Alexander McQueen to Chris Benz. In other words, expect an influx of belligerent looks surfacing in a store near you at least through the spring.
