A few days ago, many fashion- and media-world denizens were rushing to the defense John Galliano, who allegedly (a court case is pending) made some remarks at a Paris brasserie that seemed too horrifying to be true. Purple Magazine's Olivier Zahm blogged in his support, stating, "I know that you are not at all racist —whatever you said, drunk or not, to them! Your multi-ethnic shows, celebrating the beauty of nomadic worlds, and looking into visual languages of forgotten minorities (from everywhere on this planet), has brilliantly proved it to everyone from collection to collection since years." Well, now that a video capturing Galliano in racist/anti-Semitic action has been released, there's no denying he does have serious issues. Natalie Portman, for one, is pissed.

The Academy Award-winning actress, who is the face of Dior's Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, released an outraged statement yesterday, denouncing her relationship with the brand's chief designer. "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today," WWD reports her saying. "In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful." Ouch. Portman is not only Jewish, but she was born in Jerusalem, speaks fluent Hebrew, and is a massive supporter of Israel, even documenting her love of the country in the Jewish Journal a few years back.

Portman hasn't dropped out of her Dior contract just yet, and we think that the fashion house will go to great lengths to keep her, even if it means suspending Galliano for eternity and axing his upcoming Paris Fashion Week show. This is just sad.
