imageTime magazine has released its annual Top 100 list of the world’s most influential people, and surprisingly designer and Beatles scion Stella McCartney is the only fashion person who made the grade. Actress and GOOP purveyor Gwyneth Paltrow wrote the bio for her longtime friend. In the praise-heavy piece, Paltrow provides details both revealing as well as innocuous about McCartney. First off, she’s authentic; even “her red hair is her own.” And of the designer’s long-term vegetarianism (which extends itself to McCartney’s animal-free design sensibility), Paltrow says, “even if you are not interested in being a vegetarian, somehow Stella gets you to believe. She manages to convince you (never sanctimoniously, never from a soapbox) that killing animals is needless and cruel and bad for the environment.”

While McCartney is no doubt an influential figure in the fashion industry -- she’s done much to make eco and animal-friendly fashion chic, a pursuit she began long before environmental activism became fashionable -- it’s disappointing she is the only representative on Time's list for an industry whose influence extends well beyond its own doorstep. Sartorial snubs aside, New York-based McCartney fans will be happy to know that on May 5, from 1-3 p.m., the designer will be surfacing at Barneys to host a unique trunk show that will include live models as well as a Q&A between McCartney and Simon Doonan (the latter begins at 1:30 p.m.). Carnivores welcome.
