Two relatively new brands specializing in menswear are reinvigorating the stiff and starched world of collared shirts. First up is Baron Wells, the brainchild of Dominick Volini and Mads Madsen. What started as a surf-inspired line of board shorts, cuff-links, and collared shirts now includes pants, tees, jackets, and, for the discerning man interested in interior design, framed prints of Earnest Hemingway. But shirting is really where the brands stands out from pack. In addition to the more classic Eaton oxford, this season they've introduced a few safari-inspired styles, complete with vintage horn buttons from the 70s and a much more contemporary iPhone-shaped pocket. All of Baron Well's slim-fitting shirts are made in NYC. And good news for ladies: they all come in unisex sizing.
Another burgeoning menswear brand revolutionizing the world of Oxfords is Sidian, Ersatz, and Vanes. The brand's latest includes eye-catching color-block button-ups that range in palette from muted gray combos to pink paired with periwinkle. Rather than extend into other forms of men's dress, Sidian, Ersatz, and Vanes are sticking to what they, in their own words, do best: shirts. Check out the brand's spring look book, shot by JUCO and styled by Topsy Design, here. If there's one thing the two brands share beyond a love of expertly made shirts with idiosyncratic embellishment, it's a fondness of photographing said clothing in the wilderness. Hemingway, indeed.
