NY-based actor and fine jeweler, Waris Ahluwalia, has been a fixture on the international fashion scene for quite some time. In addition to his classic appearance in Wes Anderson's 2007 film, The Darjeeling Limited, you can spot the 2009 CFDA Fashion Fund finalist and his signature Sikh at just about every high-profile event, hanging with friends and fans like Johan Lindeberg and Leigh Lezark. But what you may not know is that Ahluwalia is quite the philanthropist, which is why he was more than pleased to design a one-of-a-kind pendant for tonight's Clinton Foundation 10th anniversary gala.
"I envision a world where objects made by skilled craftsmen can sit alongside mass made goods. Where generations of skill are still alive and desired. Where a considered life is the richest one. Where we realize there is another way. My work is to help make that possible," says Ahluwalia
Under his jewelry label, House of Waris, the designer worked with a local goldsmith, engraver, and furniture maker to create the unique pendant and packaging. Resting in a black walnut box, the 18-karat gold and oxidized silver piece will be auctioned off during the foundation dinner taking place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The event will also toast the 65th birthday of President Clinton, who founded the organization to improve global health, strengthen economies, and protect the environment.
