The kind of restaurant you used to have to schlep to Manhattan for, A.O.C. adds a touch of European charm to a stretch of "the other Fifth Avenue" that sees more strollers than strolling ingenues. Lengthy menu hews to the classics, with polished takes on filet mignon, coq au vin, and confit de canard. Lack of snobbery might make it feel inauthentic to some, but the rest of us are glad to see the AOC burger on the menu, which can be easily Frenchified by the addition of Roquefort. Space is airy, elegant, and not overly twee, but the requisite banquettes, candles, and French prints will definitely strike a chord with Francophiles.
