BlackBook Lowdown

— CLOSED — Jamaican-born Sean Stewart opened bookstore/gallery, Babylon Falling and is keeping it real with books dedicated to the spirit of revolution and the voices of dissent from the literary world. Hip, academic types with social consciences flock to this tiny shop stocking over 3,000 well-chosen titles including books on the California coastline, Bay Area graffiti artists, and the history of the IRA. Also featuring art documentaries, collectable toys, vintage posters and racks of graphic tees from different artists work with their background and story included on the label. Monthly events and art-exhibitions hosted that enhance a community bookstore vibe. Recent exhibit: radical underground newspapers from the '60s and '70s in the US line the walls. Heavy hitters in attendance to the opening event include famed underground press magnates John Wilcock of the Village Voice, and Ron Turner from Last Gasp.
