Christopher Doyle, Wong Kar Wai's acclaimed director or photography, had an easy time making this place look sultry and tango-rific in Happy Together, because Bar Sur's little corner ochava, with requisite quaint cobblestoned street outside, rustic charms within, and old fashioned lamp-cast lighting, exudes San Telmo decay/perfection, especially after sunset. Tango shows nightly and the slightly overpriced drinks and empanada-centric menu to match. Go in the afternoon when it's a little more chill. On a side note, Chris Doyle hates on BA in a little book he published in Japan about shooting here, though he seemed pretty stoked and party-happy when we saw him stumbling around BA a few years after denouncing this city in his tome.
