Martin Courmane knows how to do Irish right. Not in the sour-smelling-sports-bar-cum-Irish-pub kind of way but in the elegant and cozy, literary way. Beckett's Public House is modern and slightly industrial with lots of wood and slate grays, a plethora of books and a roaring fireplace. The beer list is extensive and the usuals dominate the menu—fish and chips, shepherd's pie and bangers and mash—but they're done well. It's exactly the kind of place where you can pull up a seat at the stately wooden bar and contemplate your existence, as only Beckett would have you do.
