With its slick, design-conscious interiors – minimal ethnic touches, granite bar, indoor lily pond – Benares couldn’t be more different from most of London’s Indian restaurants. Chef Atul Kochhar’s European-influenced food is in a different league, too. Try the fennel-infused lamb chops, batter-fried John Dory with crushed peas or spring chicken marinated in yoghurt.
