BlackBook Lowdown

Opened by the late John Lee Hooker, with surprise appearance by the Stones, so instant cred. Fast forward years later and it’s still the funkiest juke joint in the city. Bizzaro Superman to Biscuit and Blues: No tourists, cramped, dark, sketch hood, tiny stage, SRO scene. If you like your martini dirty it’s your kinda club. Few headliners, but national acts like Pimps of Joyclub and Big Sam’s Funky Nation lure blues fans to the Fillmore corridor. Tip: Crackhead central, so park in the underground lot across the street.
