While it may be trying a little too hard for a classic old-time-y vibe (the place takes its name from the friendship between local poet William Cullen Bryan and NYC politico Peter Cooper—who of course also has his very own East Side Village), the steaks are nonetheless quite good. The in-house butcher shop next door slices up prime cuts to take along with you, if you haven't the time or the patience for the over-heated dining room.
