Torontonians no longer have to drive five hours down the 401 to get authentic smoked meat. Zane Caplansky's old school deli has become the de facto spot for Jewish comfort food thanks to his luscious cured beef that comes in a sandwich, on its own, or--if artery-clogging is your hobby--on top of a poutine. Other heavy hitters (and we stress the word heavy) include the maple dipped fried chicken, the smoky beef ribs, and more traditional takes on deli cuisine like liver and onions and kasha vernishkes. For those who can't find the time to plunker down in one of the spiffy new space's 68 seats, Caplansky has launched a food truck appropriately named Thundering Thelma.
