After hearing friends and colleagues repeatedly lip smack about this little hide-away, I decided to take my wife and discover all the fuss first hand. Greeted with warm smiles as we entered, delicious aromas lurked and a curious young fellow towards the rear seemed to be concocting some kind of science experiment. My wife and I could tell we were already in for an interesting evening, to say the least. I opened the menu, pursuing the appy’s, realising my companion’s attention was still fixated upon the strange goings on… the young man approached our table with a profound expression of excitement as he offered us a taste of ice cream. “Chilli tequila vanilla been,” he exclaimed, seeking our criticism to his latest dessert developments… An oddly refreshing way to prepare one’s appetite. Shortly after we ordered, along came an amuse bouche of porcini, portobello cream with warm foccacia. My wife and I generally lean towards wine, but after absorbing the cocktail menu we were re-acquainted with the chemist. His descriptions were inspiring and precise to the taste… we trusted his recommendations. We enjoyed the mussels before the main event, then shared the Coq au Vin & Daube du beouf with beets and carrots. Having travelled in and around France in my youth, I grew particularly fond of the Coq au Vin. The marriage between the sauce and protein was flawless. Overall our experience at Cassis was riddled with a personal touch from start to finish. The only disappointment was that we could not stay for dessert due to a prior engagement at a local theatre. We will return! Parfait!
