BlackBook Lowdown

The food doesn't quite live up to the name at this upscale Italian restaurant inside the Wit Hotel. Cibo Matto translates to "crazy food," but the dishes coming out of the open kitchen are, if anything, elegant and well-executed. The modern dining room with its tall, white booths and large windows looking out over State Street gleams with polished, dark wood and a standout mural by Todd Murphy. Dishes range from house-cured meats and cheese (check out the 10-foot enclosed glass cheese case) to sweet breads with fried lemon slices. Braised shortribs and Lake Superior whitefish show off Chef Todd Stein's skills, while you show off your fine choice in restaurants just by showing up. Finish the evening with a nightcap on the 27th floor's rooftop bar, ROOF.
