Housed in an unmistakable blue and white building that seems as old as the city itself, Commander's Palace is as famous for being a breeding ground for great chefs-e.g., Emeril-as it is for its food. But the food, which lies somewhere between traditional and contemporary Creole, is better than you'd expect at a popular tourist place, and the fact that locals still eat there proves the point. Minor secret: it serves 25-cent martinis at lunch. Good luck with that.
