BlackBook Lowdown

Anglican calories for Episcopalian palates. Such a flattering tribute indeed that actual British cuisine may sue for misrepresentation. Jaime Oliver channels Jane Austen: bits of rare welsh, real treacle, culinary classics that make you say "blimey." "Just beer" not an option but dear old Blighty's ales and lager have hobbits and elves singing side by side. The outside feels like the Tate Modern—inside, Saatchi's loving the minimalist crockery.

Not English

Posted by Zimboy on Tuesday, April 07, 2009

I came craving english food, a good steak and kidney pie or roast beef and Yorkshire pud. Chicken pot pie? Call that English food? Burger? They advertise Worcestershire sauce on their menu and can't bring it to their customers! Speaking of sauce - no HP sauce either! Lame american pub food posing at twice English prices. You'd think the least they could do is provide authentic condiments to those who want to pretend. Yawn.
