Max peeps up the scale without ditching their successful m.o., i.e. rustic space, flavorful Italian food, reasonable prices. Big "den" with a farmhouse feel, thanks to exposed wood beams. Contemporary touches in concrete floors and tiered chandeliers. Open kitchen cranks out homemade pastas, top lasagna, gnocci, black linguine with crab. Wood-fired oven for crisp pies; we're partial to the prosciutto crudo. Upstairs lounge goes eclectic, with mismatched chairs and a bar made of reclaimed doors that looks like the construction walls of a long-ago NYC.
