Don’t judge Doraku by its exterior. Though it looks like a hot drink spot with glowing floors, a bumping DJ booth and dim mood lighting, the place serves some seriously good Japanese, and the model (literally) servers certainly don’t detract from the experience. For a quick bite, grab a table up front and pair to-die-for appetizers like “Double Happiness”—a roll topped with Maine lobster, sweet shrimp, scallops, tuna and salmon—with a stiff cocktail. If you take sushi dinners more seriously, opt for one of the oversized booths closer to the sushi bar in the back. You can’t go wrong with any of the 18 specialty rolls or the chef’s special sushi and sashimi combos. The giant hand-picked-in-Japan sake selection is no joke, either.
