El Cortez Cabana Suites

Editorial Review

Downtown rennaissance continues with El Cortez's propertywide rennovation. Briefly ownsed by Bugsy Siegel and then by Vegas gaming scion Jackie Gaughan, the Cortez kept its vintage signage and some of its old-school mojo, but major additions (martini bar) have altered a formerly low-rent Lynchian essence. The crowning touch on this makeover: the El Cortez Cabana suites. A separate boutique hotel, the Cabana Suites are all Miami Vice on the outside and Z. Galerie Jonathan Adler inside. Rooms are non-smoking and the mini bar is snacks only; but with all the indulgent, skeezy overkill of Fremont Street just steps away, that's probably a good thing.
