Elie Tahari opened his first boutique on Madison Avenue in 1974 and is most well-known for his tailored ladies suits. But what happens to 'the smart, sexy woman' (as he describes his customers) when she goes on vacation? Does she just let herself go? No. Billowy blouses, floral print silk dresses, tailored shorts and soft cardigans for those breezy evenings on the bay. The store in East Hampton is in itself worth checking out (Tahari says his clothing designs are inspired by good architcture, in fact, so maybe the clothes repaid the favor to the store): The exterior of the building was painstakingly restored to its original 1917 redbrick. Inside, the design team created a glass prism enclosing the steel-spine staircase and intersecting the two floor that all opens up to a second floor skylight, letting the East End sun in.
