BlackBook Lowdown
One of the "newer" luxury hotels on the scene, the George V dates back to only 1928. The art deco building was designed by an American architect and served as Eisenhower's HQ at the end of WWII. History aside, the V is today a temple of modern luxury: marble elevators, rare tapestries, enviable antiques, famous florals, a gastronomic resto (le Cinq), and service that's discreet enough for Michael Jackson stays. Top rooms include eighth-floor Honeymoon Suite with views of the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame from its two balconies. The Presidential (#201) has its own gym and private office. Rooms start around €700 and rise to +2500.
