Taking over departed, beloved Delicatessen Meyer's old sigs is this bi-level gourmet sausage house/grocery. While Gene's may never truly replace Meyer's in hardcore hearts, they've certainly got German-centric neighborhood of Lincoln Square aflutter with European-trained sausage makers grinding and smoking their goods on-site. Watch for six varieties of Polish sausage, four kinds of brats, homemade pierogies and that mean sauerkraut aisle. Gene's doubles as a full grocery with healthy beer, wine and liquor stock. Expect rooftop beer garden in Spring to get hot-spotty, fast.
