Hôtel Eldorado ain’t a city of gold, but it is hard to beat for the price. The 40 rooms are modest but adequate, individually decked out with bohemian-kitsch flea-market furnishings. No AC and a little worn, but great for shoestring stays. Adjoining wine bar, Bistro des Dames, is a very popular, easygoing hang with a good cave and an even better terrasse. Get a room facing the precious garden patio, as the street can get loud at night. €45 for a single room with bath, €55-70 for a double with bath, and an unheard-of €25 for a single room with shared hallway bath.
