Sister to the more avant-garde Hotel Seven, Le Crayon, at 27 rooms almost more a guesthouse than a hotel, goes a bit heavier on the kitsch. All from the mind of artist Julie Gauthron, it is a dizzying mix of antiques and playfully mod furnishings; numerous mirrors are placed willy-nilly throughout the rooms and bathrooms. And, true to its name, Gauthron, along with her young daughter, took to the walls (and just about any other surface) and their spontaneous illustrations give Le Crayon an almost fantasy, fairytale quality.
