The Notre Dame hotel is numéro trois from designer Christian Lacroix, and with its Seine-side views of Our Lady of Paris, romance and luxury get equal billing. Public spaces are done up with frescoes and trompe l'oeil, and the fantastical rooms have themes such as The Angels, Divine Garden, and The Magi, with Lacroix shunning trends in order to mine the aesthetic glories of late-medieval and renaissance Florence. Chambers are lavish, whimsical, and impossibly ethereal, with lashings of velvet and damask. Rooms facing the courtyard -- and thus deprived of the view -- are fitted with video screens that broadcast images from the quayside.
