BlackBook Lowdown

B-Side courtyard, renovated in June 2008, is a fresh addition to the more formal Joy bistro and Over Joy (upstairs bar/ private events). Beneath the iron gates, you may feel like you've walked onto the set of Under The Tuscan Sun. Tangerine stucco walls, murals of landscapes and new homeowners in the hood toasting with sangria complete the scene. In-the know coworkers will commute over the bridge from Queen West for s'mores around the outdoor gas fireplace. No need for Kumbaya sing-alongs, however: live music entertains on Wednesdays.

Braised Beef Cheeks?

Ok, Braised Beef Cheeks sounds weird, and if you picture it, the though could also be weird. But when you taste this amazing dish, you will want more. We all ordered different dishes and everyone sampled from each other's plate. All meals were increadibly tasty, but the surprizing delight was the Braised Beef Cheeks. The meat was so tender and succulent. Each bite brought a smile as I closed my eyes to enjoy the flavour. Needless to say, I sampled that plate a couple times!! I had Seared Scallops that were so good I didn't want to share, my friend had the Chicken Supreme that was the most juicy and tender chicken I have had in a restaurant and my other friend had the pasta special that was a delight to the senses also. The goodness wasn't over yet. As we almost licked our plates clean, desert was next. O M G!!! Needless to say, a 1.5 hour meal lingered into over 2 hours easily as we slowly savored our sweet sensations with coffee and wine. I can't wait to go back and try something new!

Surprise

I am not much of a steak fan, but I love prime rib. So when I was there with friends on Sunday night, they ordered Steak Frits and the Fish dish of the day, I ordered the Prime Rib. Surprise to me is that it came with Yorkshire Pudding. Guess I didn't read that on the menu. Even more of a surprise was the fact that it was fresh to order and hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp. I would have to say this is the best prime rib I have had ever (Don't tell my mom)
