Jumeirah Essex House

Editorial Review

Art Deco landmark has stood sentry over Central Park since 1931, but recent Jumeirah spruce up (to the tune of $90 mill) has elevated it in class. On the formal side, but that's hardly a surprise given the location and the Dubai money behind it. Best deals are interior rooms, but park views do tempt the upgrade. Plenty of polished wood and marble, plus puffy comforters, requisite high-tech goodies. South Gate for in-house posh dining, or luxuriate over afternoon tea in the burnished Lobby Lounge.
