There was a fracture in the first family of eat-with-your-hands Texas barbecue. The sister kept the original Kreuz location and renamed it Smitty’s. The brothers kept the Kreuz name and moved a quarter-mile north. Into a big, red industrial building. Choosing between the two is like splitting hairs. Both have legendary meat. But this one's newer and, dare say, more refined. You're more apt to break bread with foodies than farmhands who cut their brisket with pocketknives.
