Perhaps the new century’s first truly grand flourish of Parisian glamour, the glorious Royal Monceau should see a steady parade of the fabulous and fashionable beating a path to its glittering doors. Philippe Starck’s design keeps the rooms elegant and classy, encouraging guests towards personal customization; he thus saves his most baroque gestures for the public spaces. To wit, restaurant La Cuisine’s lavishly flamboyant chandeliers and the dazzling 1930’s style Le Bar Long, which actually has, well, no bar. An arty bookshop, a cinema, regular art auctions and even available guitar lessons (!) remind one that this is, above all, a place for cultured souls.
